14 Tips: For maintaining your towels

They are nice and soft: new Walra towels. But how do you keep them so soft and beautiful? Below 14 tips:

TIP 1:

Do not use fabric softener! Towels dry best then, they are called ‘thirsty towels’. New towels? Do not use fabric softener for the first wash. This creates a layer so that the fibers absorb less.

TIP 2:

Before washing, pour a dash of cleaning or natural vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser. Then you are guaranteed to get wonderfully soft towels and the bath linen will retain its color. Because vinegar descales and degreases soap residues are dissolved in this way. Vinegar descales and degreases, and this is how the soap residues dissolve.

TIP 3:

Do you want really soft towels: put them in the dryer. Hanging them outside makes towels a little harder. However, using the tumble dryer is worse for the environment.

There are generally three options for drying towels: in the dryer, on a rack, or outside on the clothesline:

  1. Outside on the clothesline is best for the environment. The wind moves towels and makes them less stiff. When the towels are almost dry, you can also put them in the dryer for 5 minutes for an extra soft result.
  2. Inside on a rack. Provide a large room that is well ventilated. Because there is no wind, towels become stiff sooner. To prevent this, knock out the towels a few times.
  3. In the dryer. This method is the least environmentally friendly. Yet this gives you the greatest chance of soft towels. Do not use a hot program, otherwise the fibers may be damaged. Immediately remove the towels from the dryer afterwards and fold/roll them lightly.

TIP 4:

It is also recommended not to wash the light and white towels with the dark colored towels. This prevents the colors from running into each other.

TIP 5:

Don’t stuff towels in the cupboard, but put them in a nice and airy pile. You can also roll them up in the closet for fun styling.

Tip 6:

If you store the bath linen in the bathroom, it will naturally remain softer because of the high humidity.

TIP 7:

We do not recommend ironing bath towels. The bath linen may become softer, but the heat will damage the fibers. As a result, the bath linen dries worse and the towels wear out faster.

Tip 8:

Older towels can be re-rolled a bit with a firm brush. Thus, the fibers are forced upright. Please note: the bath linen will wear out faster as a result, because the loops will be damaged quickly.

TIP 9:

Never mix bath towels with clothes in the washing machine. As a result, buttons and zippers cannot cause damage to the cotton fibers.

TIP 10:

Check the package carefully to see how much detergent you should use. Better a little less than too much. You also need less detergent with soft water than with harder (lime-rich) water.

TIP 11:

Never use your towels to take off the chlorine agent! The agent bleaches and breaks down the fibres.

TIP 12:

As with all laundry: always sort your bath linen by color! Explore the towel rack for your bathroom.

TIP 13:

Wash towels if they are not really dirty at a low temperature (30 or 40 degrees). This keeps them clean and makes them last longer. There are many misunderstandings about washing instructions, and many people also think that laundry will not be cleaned properly if it is not washed hot enough. In most cases, your towels will be perfectly clean at a temperature of 30°C to 40°C. Only with very dirty towels, you can opt for a higher temperature, 60°C

TIP 14:

You really don’t have to prewash with today’s detergents. Nice energy saving!

Because we love fresh clothes that smell nice, we tend to add a large scoop of washing powder to our laundry. But the soap residue in the towel can make the towel a bit rougher. And be very careful with certain products such as chlorine. Not only will your towels fade as a result, they will also be damaged.
